Curriculum Innovation Premium Services for 2013 - 2014.

The cost to access all the ‘Premium Services’ below is only £200 per school / setting saving £600.

Below is a summary of the events, competitions and other services that are included in the ‘Premium Services’ offer. Further details will be circulated to all relevant schools throughout the year.

Please note that you can purchase each of these Premium services individually through a 'Bespoke Subscription bolt-on'.

Cars - Maths in Motion (CMIM): Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £100.

This continues to be a very popular annual competition allowing schools to use mathematical skills and knowledge to create virtual F1 cars and race them against pupils from other schools. This is a national competition and Bankfoot Primary became the 2010 and 2011 KS2 ‘National Champions’. Schools buy their own software and we provide free training & support that includes a CMIM blog, two Face to Face races, and management of online leagues for those schools participating. All participating pupils receive certificates and there are medals for the overall winning school.

Annual Film & Animation competition: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £100.

This is an annual black tie / red carpet showcase event at the National Media Museum allowing children to share films and animations they have created throughout the year. The entries received are short listed and the successful entries are shown at the Pictureville Theatre where schools use an interactive voting system to vote for their winners. The winning entries receive an Oscar and a prize. This is a great way to celebrate the digital media work created by our pupils and a wonderful event to end the year for pupils, parents and staff.

Interactive video conferencing experiences: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £100.

Last year the Curriculum Innovation team successfully delivered the ‘Santa video conferencing experience’ to many schools. This year we will once again provide your pupils with access to the ‘big guy’ by video conferencing with the North Pole. We will also be running two further ‘video conferencing interview experiences’ allowing pupils to conference with famous historical characters that will be announced later in the year.

Discounted access to Innovation Centre provision: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £100.

The Innovation Centres provide technology resource boxes, digital day experiences and training spaces for events and meetings. Subscribing to this premium service will allow schools to purchase provision at the ‘subscribing school’ price advertised on the website. This includes significant savings to loan equipment, room bookings, 3rd millennium learning experiences, laser etching and other services.

The digital box experience: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £50 (two week loan).

Many schools want to gain experience of technologies such as iPads, iPods and Kindles in the classroom but have limited budgets to purchase these. The digital box contains 2 iPad 2s, 2 Kindles and 6 iPods all fully loaded with apps and books that you can share with your staff and pupils over a 2 week period. This will give you the valuable experience you require to make informed decisions with regard to purchasing the appropriate technologies to meet your school’s needs. You are also entitled to a half day of consultancy at the discounted rate of £175 to further support staff’s understanding of the effective use of these technologies in the classroom if requested.

Kodu Games Programming Competition: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £100.

The draft changes to the ICT / Computer Science curriculum to be statutory in September 2014 include several attainment targets specific to programming and coding. Kodu is a free programming resource from Microsoft allowing the creation of high quality and engaging interactive games. Using this free software schools will be invited to enter a termly competition (KS2 and KS3) to find the best games designers in Bradford! Schools will receive free training and support and the termly winners in each Key Stage will receive a prize.

'The Learning Arcade’: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £50

Many schools are engaging their pupils utilising GBL (games based learning) and innovative mobile technologies. The Curriculum Innovation team have set up a games based learning area (available from September 2013 at the Innovation Centre Bradford) where schools can trial numerous games, game consoles, apps and mobile technologies and decide which of these technologies are appropriate to needs of their school.

‘ICT online’: Cost as a bespoke subscription 'bolt-on' - £150

The Curriculum Innovation team use the Innovation Centres website as their primary online resource to schools and other partners. We provide as much ‘free’ provision as we can but some provision is very costly to develop and is now located behind login as ‘ICT online’. This provision will develop over the year but presently includes full access to the Bradford ICT scheme of work, 3rd millennium learning case studies and a new resource called digital master classes. The digital master classes are short videos and online resources modelling how to use a technology effectively in the classroom. Present resources include how to embed video, sound and other content in a blog, how to create effective animations, making the most of Google docs and many more. These are ideal cost effective ways to enhance your school’s CPD provision. We will try and develop future resources to meet your needs on request.

(e)Safeguarding health-check: Cost as a bolt-on - £50.

Many schools have (e)Safeguarding policies and practices in place and the health-check allows your provision to be evaluated by a qualified ‘(e)Safety Mark’ assessor. The health-check normally costs £150 for 1.5 hour session but this option allows you to access this on request at the discounted price of £75.
